The company was originally formed in 1991 as South Coast RIBs who then rebranded and renamed the company in March 1996 to reflect their Scorpion model range. Scorpion Ribs have been continually developing their original custom-made leisure and pleasure RIBs with no two Scorpions ever being the same.

The brand name has become synonymous with excellent quality, absolute safety and extremely comfortable fast rides. Over the years the hull design has remained constant but the mouldings above deck are continually evolving to give Scorpion that leading edge. The MKII ranges from 7.5m to 9.75m whilst the incredible 10m Cruisers were launched in 2002.

Currently Scorpion Ribs have a staff complement of 20 people working out of four facilities all within Lymington. Every part is made in-house, apart from the stainless steel and upholstery, all of which are made locally in Lymington. Scorpions for the Mediterranean market are now built by their partner company RIBCO in Greece under licence to the same high quality standards. Some 180 Scorpions have been built to date (2006), with a typical fully specified Scorpion averaging out at around £75,000 + vat.
