New Sportsboat & RIB Show
MDL Boat Show at Southampton

Ocean Village, the marina on the south coast of the UK owned by MDL, has announced the introduction of a new sports boat and RIB show in Southampton.

The Southampton Sports Boat and RIB Show will run over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday 1 - Monday 3 May 2004, and is targeting the Sports boat, RIB, and PWC markets.

Avon Inflatables, the well known inflatable boat manufacturer has already confirmed attendance, as has Barrus, Ribtec, Ribeye and Yamaha, and Bill Knight, Marina Manager of Ocean Village is optimistic that other exhibitors will quickly sign up for on-shore or on-water space.

"We are hoping to attract around 60 exhibitors to the Southampton Sportsboat and RIB Show. We know that the first May Bank Holiday time is a good time for both exhibitors and visitors and Southampton is a known venue for boat shows," he commented.

Ocean Village in Southampton has good road and rail access for visitors and exhibitors, has parking for 600 cars and has a dedicated team of personnel with previous experience at holding major events such as race starts, race finishes and boat shows such as this.

According to Bill Knight, marina manager at Ocean Village, they hope to attract around 15,000 visitors over the three days. "We see this as very much a lifestyle sort of event," Knight added, claiming that the show's focus on PWCs, dinghies, sportsboats and RIBs, would appeal to a wide audience.

Hugo Montgomery Swan, editor of RIB International magazine, organisers of RIBEX, a UK-based show dedicated to RIBs, said: "We're not entirely sure what effect this new show will have on ours, we'll have to wait and see, however I imagine it will be more lifestyle orientated than RIBEX. We have a very dedicated RIBEX audience, visitors who know what they're getting - a show totally dedicated to the RIB market." Montgomery-Swan added that Ribex's new venue for 2004, Cowes Yacht Haven, had been specifically chosen to enable visitors to test RIBs out on the water. "Sea trialing during the show makes RIBEX unique," Montgomery-Swan said.
