After an initial postponement from last May, the first edition of the AQUARAID finally took place during the last week of September between Imperia in northern Italy and the Island of Elbe.

Just under a thousand nautical miles and five days of excitement that will live on in every competitor's memory for a long time to come. The race set off from the town of Imperia, not far from Nice in the Gulf of Genoa. The town is more accustomed to seeing cars taking part each year in the San Remo Rally, but
it was more than happy to turn to the sea and welcome the impressive flotilla from the AQUARAID 2003.

Among those taking part were professional pilots such as Kris Deraedt, Sven Aartsen and Nicolas Wallaert. Alongside them were Joël Bontoux, the multiple French jetski World Champion, Didier de Radiguès, former grand prix motorcycle World Vice-Champion and motor racing driver, Bérénice, star entertainer on Bel RTL and Laurent Moretto, presenter on Club RTL and RTL TV1.

Fifteen ribs, specially prepared and well-equipped for this demanding race, were launched on Sunday 21 September in front of a large crowd that turned out to give a vibrant send-off to these new adventurers
