The event, held on Thursday 22 May 2003, was the first of its kind, saw over 300 members of the Marine Industry gather at Goodwood Racecourse for a unique day of 'Boating-Meets-Racing', and has been hailed a great success by organisers and participants alike. The money was raised through a charity raffle, which offered as first prize, an Avon R340 RIB complete with a 10hp Mariner engine (courtesy of EP Barrus), worth over £4000.

Event Organiser Georgina Bartlett commented, "We are extremely pleased with the amount that we have raised for

our three nominated charities. The RIB that Avon kindly donated proved hugely popular and generated over 6000 raffle ticket sales." The 3.4 metre RIB is one of Avon's most popular models known for its stability, buoyancy and comfort.

The RIB was won by regular Goodwood race goers, David and Gloria Horne of Essex.

The £6000 raised was divided between the three nominated charities for the day, The Meningitis Research Foundation, St Wilfrid's Hospice and the Army Benevolent Fund.
