The Royal Yachting Association ( RYA ) National Powerboat championship reached a thrilling climax recently when 50 teams from across the UK competed in the final two races of the year at the Gibraltar Powerboat Festival. HotRIBS member Mike Deacon and his son Dave (who does the driving) have dominated their races this year after scoring four outright wins and to complete the season they hustled their 10 metre Scorpion RIB Hot Lemon around two testing navigational courses off Gibraltar to secure first place in the National Championship for Open Class RIBs.

At 23 years, Dave is one of the youngest drivers in this fast, furious and dangerous sport but he
and father Mike have considerable experience as they have now been racing together for almost 10 years.

Earlier this year they and two other friends set a new Round Britain Record for powerboats to demonstrate that Hot Lemon isn't just a fast race boat but can also succeed in a 1500 mile endurance event up to 70 miles offshore.

Mike and Dave are already planning their campaign for next year as the first race will be in Poole on the 2nd February. HotRIBS readers can expect more Hot Lemon news ...
